Founded in 1577, by the fourth Sikh guru, Ram Das, Amritsar is a beautiful blend of tradition, culture, history and food. The city is primarily known for its holy Golden Temple. and why wouldn't it? The city derives both its name as well as existence from the temple.

The city of Amritsar appeared as the plans were made for a town settlement around the holy Golden Temple, with an idea to have a central place of worship for Sikhs around the world. Thus, the name of the city derived as 'Amritsar' which literally means 'Pool of Nectar' ('Amrit' means nectar and 'Ser' means samovar or pool), the one surrounding the holy temple. However, the city has a lot more to offer. Bustling bazaars, a maze of narrow lanes, piquant food, vibrant tradition and still a sense of calmness amid all the chaos, that's the beauty of Amritsar.
