The epitome of Mughal Architecture, the pride of Mughal Dynasty; words fall short when it comes to describe the astounding beauty and architectural perfection of Red Fort or Lal Quila. Once known as the 'most beautiful building in India', Red Fort got its name from its massive red-colored sandstone walls which were originally white in colour. Spreading over an area of 254 acres, the octagonal-shaped fort is a perfect example of the culmination of Mughal, Persian, Hindu and Timurid traditions. For those who are keen on history, the fort has a lot to offer such as peacock throne, imperial bath, step well, Hira Mahal and Moti Masjid.

Apart from the architectural beauty, the fort has something more to offer you. Every evening, a Sound and Light Show is organized here. The show lasts for 1 hour and it showcases the history of Delhi and Red fort. So, if you're not running out of time, do try this show. It will fill you with amazement.

A visit to Red Fort is often combined with neighboring Jama Masjid - the landmark royal mosque . Feeling hungry? Savour some Delhi's street food in Chandni Chowk; some of the must try food places here include Old Famous Jalebiwal and Paranthe Wali Gali.
