Constructed by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh in the year 1799, Hawa Mahal is an epitome of immaculate architectural skills. Chiefly made with red and pink sandstone, its distinctive five floor exterior is analogous to the honeycomb of a beehive. The structure displays a total of 953 windows called jharokhas, each decorated with intricate latticework.

Through the jharokhas, the Royal ladies used to observe the everyday life and the festivals celebrated on the streets below while obeying the strict purdah custom.

The architectural heritage of this palace is a fine concoction of Rajput and Islamic Mughal architectural styles, making it a major tourist attraction.
