Often in the deserts, the word oasis adds cheer to the otherwise parched landscapes that deserts are portrayed as. Indeed, "Oasis" is a perfect word to sketch Ajmer, the 5th largest city in Rajasthan.

Founded in the 17th century by Ajaipal Chauhan, Ajmer got its name from 'Ajay Meru', which can be translated as 'invincible hill', referring to the Taragarh hill along the slope of which the city is situated. Famous for its Dargah Sharif, Ajmer is a popular pilgrimage. As the city displays a perfect amalgamation of religion, culture, and community, coexisting and flourishing in harmony, it is a perfect representation of the diversity of the Indian culture.
